Our Mission

Shannon’s Hope exists as a Christ-centered safe refuge and transitional housing program for pregnant and exploited women.

Our Program

Shannon’s Hope provides a loving, life-affirming home to pregnant and exploited women.

  • Our open-ended program timeline is flexible to meet the growth of the individual served. The average length of stay is approximately 15 months.

  • Housing and mentorship through our residential home.

  • Guidance to initiate an individual “life plan” to work towards both during and after their pregnancy or trauma, with classes, for example, life skills, parenting, nutrition, spiritual guidance, career training, peer and leadership, to name a few.

  • Referrals to community resources to address specific individual needs for mental, medical, dental, legal care, homelessness, etc.

  • Foster a spirit of independence for themselves and their children, enabling many to break dependent roles

  • Maintain at all times an atmosphere and practice of faith, hope, and love

Our History

Leslie Pottebaum, founded Shannon’s Hope in 1982, after a personal tragedy to provide a refuge for homeless pregnant women and a voice for the unborn. Over the last nearly 40 years we have taken in pregnant women of all ages, all walks of faith, in all situations of life, including the more “hard core” cases referred by other women’s shelters not equipped or willing to handle their extra challenges.

One-third of the women are victims of domestic violence, one-third are substance abusers, and the other third are homeless. Shannon’s Hope is privately funded through donations. It’s a Christian home with courses such as parenting, life skills, nutrition, and Bible study.
